FAQ
What is the Parents’ Association (PA)?
P.S. 101Q’s Parents' Association Inc. is a 501(c)3 charity dedicated to enriching the school environment for our children. We are a volunteer organization and encourage all parents to be involved in the PA through participation on one of our committees, attending PA meetings, chairing or volunteering for an event or making a donation. We play an essential role in our school and collaborate with our principal and school administration on a daily basis.
The PA is led by our Executive Board. The PA must adhere to Chancellor's Regulation A-660 as well as our PA BYLAWS.
What does the PA do?
The PA organizes and supports a number of programs to enrich our school.
- Residencies: The PA is committed to funding residency programs for each grade. Residencies are typically 7 to 8 week programs focused on STEM, wellness, or the arts. Through residency programs we seek to enhance and enrich our children's overall education and experience at PS 101Q.
- After School Program: One of the PA’s largest programs is the After School program, which provides classes ranging from sports to hobbies and academics for our children after school hours.
- Assemblies & Special Programs: Throughout the year, the PA will also fund assemblies and other special programs for our students.
- Events: The PA runs a number of fun, family oriented events for our school community during the year.
The PA also purchases items such as printers, computers, Smartboards, music and theater equipment, student magazines, field trips, air conditioners, and much more for the school, our teachers and our children.
How can I become a PA member?
As a parent, legally appointed guardian or a primary caregiver of a child who attends our school, you are automatically a member of the PA.
Do I have to pay a membership fee?
No, there is no required membership fee.
How do serve on the PA board?
Elections of PA Board positions are held every Spring. The Board provides the leadership for the PA and interfaces with the principal, school administration and DOE.
How can I volunteer?
We are 100% reliant upon our volunteers to run all our events and programs. There are many volunteer opportunities. Some volunteer opportunities involve only a hour or two of time like recess monitors, head check or staffing the bake or book sales. Other volunteer opportunities are more involved such as chairing an event.
If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our Get Involved page and sign up for an Event or Committee.
